This painting of a hornbill, which I mistakenly thought was a toucan at first, was taken from a photograph my husband took some years ago at a zoo in Tenerife, called Loro Parque.I have always loved the photo so decided recently to attempt to reproduce it in acrylic. The bird's beak has obviously been damaged at some time, it looks as though he has had it repaired also!!! I think that adds to his character - making him appear tough! I used acylic paints along with some black acrylic ink for the finer details of the feathers around his neck. A perfect painting for any bird lovers out there. This painting has been framed with a dark wood frame, which is edged with gold to add a touch of class! The painting has been done on acrylic board, which is similar to hardboard.
